Description

Stop Getting AI Manuscripts That Read Like Modern Stories in Costume.

The Historical Romance Author is an interactive AI skill for Claude Desktop that asks what you want — period, social class, trope, heat level, tone — then writes a complete, publish-ready historical romance manuscript with a strict Period Authenticity System that prevents anachronistic dialogue, modern psychology, consequence-free rule-breaking, and generic “old-timey” settings.

No more heroines who say “I’m not okay with this” in 1815. No more social scandals that everyone forgets by the next chapter. No more heroes who are always dukes and heroines who are always spirited bluestockings. No more happy endings that only work by ignoring the period’s actual social rules. This skill fixes the specific ways AI fails at historical romance — and runs every manuscript through 5 rounds of editing before you see it.

How It Works

Step 1: Answer 12 questions. The skill asks what YOU want through popup-style multiple choice — one question at a time. No guessing, no “just press go.”

  1. Historical Period — Regency, Georgian, Victorian, Medieval, Tudor, Highland Scotland, American Western, Gilded Age, 1920s, WWII, Viking, Ancient World
  2. Social Class & Setting — aristocracy, gentry, working class, servant, cross-class, outsider
  3. Romance Trope — enemies-to-lovers, forbidden love, marriage of convenience, rake reformed, wallflower, second chance, disguise, forced proximity
  4. Heat Level — sweet/clean, sensual, steamy, or very steamy
  5. Tone — light & witty (Bridgerton), serious & literary (Outlander), gothic/atmospheric (Jane Eyre), or adventurous
  6. POV Structure — dual POV, single heroine, single hero, or primarily one with switches
  7. Historical Event Integration — real events driving the plot, light atmosphere, or fictional scenario
  8. Social Stakes — reputation, fortune, family, freedom, safety, or multiple
  9. Length — novella (20,000 words), standard novel (50-70,000 words), or extended (80-100,000 words)
  10. Series Position — standalone, Book 1, or continuing a series
  11. Style Guide — upload 1-2 previous manuscripts and the skill matches YOUR voice
  12. Outline — bring your own or have one generated for your approval

Step 2: The skill writes your book — with the Period Authenticity System active in every chapter, enforcing era-appropriate dialogue, psychology, social consequences, and daily life detail.

Step 3: Full editorial pipeline — AI-ism revision, period authenticity audit, developmental edit, beta read, and targeted revision. Every manuscript goes through 5 rounds of editing before delivery.

The Period Authenticity System

This is what makes the Historical Romance Author different from generic AI writing. Six rules that prevent the most common AI failures in period fiction:

  1. Characters Think In Their Time — motivations, fears, and moral frameworks shaped by the era. A Regency heroine’s concept of independence is different from a WWII woman’s. Characters can push boundaries — but they must know those boundaries exist and pay a cost for defying them.
  2. Dialogue Reflects the Era — no modern idioms, no therapy-speak, no contemporary casual register. Class and education are audible. Each era gets its own speech patterns, not generic “old-fashioned.”
  3. Social Rules Have Teeth — every social violation has real, enforced, persistent consequences. If being seen alone with a man ruins a woman’s reputation in this era, it ACTUALLY ruins her reputation when it happens. No “everyone just forgot.”
  4. Daily Life Is Specific, Not Generic — characters eat specific food, wear specific clothing, travel by specific means, handle money in specific ways. One accurate detail is worth ten vague period references.
  5. The Romance Earns Its HEA Within the World — the happy ending must be achievable within the social constraints of the period. Characters can subvert social rules or choose consequences — but they can’t magically ignore the world the reader has lived in for 30 chapters.
  6. The Period Is Not Uniform — class, wealth, region, and individual circumstance create enormous variation. A Regency servant’s life is nothing like a Regency duchess’s. Avoid flattening history into a single “back then.”

The Tone System

Four tone options that fundamentally change how the book reads:

  • Light & Witty — banter, humor, sparkling dialogue. Social comedy alongside the romance. Think Tessa Dare, Julia Quinn.
  • Serious & Literary — emotional depth, lyrical prose, historical weight. The period feels immersive and consequential. Think Diana Gabaldon, Paullina Simons.
  • Gothic / Atmospheric — dark settings, secrets, brooding intensity. The house has moods, the weather has meaning. Jane Eyre energy.
  • Adventurous — action, travel, physical danger woven through the romance. The world is wide and the stakes are physical as well as social.

Match Your Voice

Upload 1-2 previous manuscripts and the skill builds a style guide from your existing work — capturing your voice, how you weave in period detail, your dialogue register, romance style, pacing, and heat approach. Your books sound like YOU, not like a generic AI template.

What You Get Per Book

  • Complete manuscript as .docx (20k, 50-70k, or 80-100k words depending on your choice)
  • Amazon KDP metadata document with description, keywords, categories, comp titles, and cover prompt
  • Style guide (if built from uploads) — reusable across your series

Built-In Protections

  • AI Name Blacklist — no Lady Arabella, Lord Blackwood, or Thornfield Manor. Period-accurate naming by era, class, and region.
  • Anti-7 Bias — prevents the AI default of using 7 for every year, age, and address
  • Dialogue Anachronism Detection — catches “okay,” “I feel like,” “that’s not fair,” and dozens of other modern phrases that break period immersion
  • Psychology Anachronism Detection — catches modern therapeutic language in character thought (“boundaries,” “toxic,” “red flags,” “empowerment”)
  • Consequence Persistence — the system tracks social violations and prevents them from being forgotten

The Full Editorial Pipeline

Every manuscript goes through 5 stages of editing — not just one pass:

  1. AI-Ism Revision — removes robotic phrasing, fixes POV breaks, sharpens period dialogue, catches historical romance-specific AI patterns (“she was not like other women of her time”)
  2. Period Authenticity Audit — verifies dialogue register, social consequences, daily life specificity, psychology consistency, HEA plausibility, and naming accuracy
  3. Developmental Edit — structural assessment of pacing, character, social stakes, romance progression, period accuracy, and tone consistency
  4. Beta Read — critical reader review calibrated for historical romance readers with star rating, anachronism report, and ranked fixes
  5. Targeted Revision — applies top structural improvements from dev edit and beta read
