Premise:
After his life implodes in the city, gruff and emotionally guarded Cormac Hatcher inherits a shuttered roadhouse called Harrow’s Tap on the outskirts of Harrow’s End, a small Vermont hill-country town with a population of 1,400. Arriving with his three-legged catahoula Grits and a determination to keep to himself, Cormac soon discovers the town is bound by an ancient, unwritten compact with a predatory supernatural entity called the Patience, which feeds on outsiders in exchange for leaving the town’s residents alone. The previous owner, Cormac’s estranged uncle Abe, broke the arrangement and walked into the surrounding forest never to return, leaving the compact in a fragile grace period. As Cormac reluctantly reopens the bar and is drawn into the community through the relentless warmth and sharp-witted banter of Audra Petty, a mortician’s assistant who has been secretly documenting the town’s disappearances for years, the Patience’s hunger cycle resumes and its pressure mounts. With the bar becoming both a community sanctuary and a primary target, Cormac and Audra must confront the ancient entity, the town’s complicit silence, and the personal wounds each has been running from, before the Patience consumes them all.
