Description
Stop Getting Urban Fantasy Manuscripts Where the Protagonist Discovers Magic on Page One.
The Urban Fantasy Author is an interactive AI skill for Claude Desktop that asks what you want — protagonist role, city, magic system, faction politics, case structure, tone — then writes a complete, publish-ready urban fantasy manuscript with a strict World Integration System that prevents discovery arcs, generic cities, free magic, separated mundane/magical layers, and protagonists without voice.
No more heroes who wake up normal and “discover they have powers.” No more cities that could be anywhere. No more magic that never costs anything. No more supernatural politics that vanish during action scenes. No more flat narration that could belong to any character in any book. This skill fixes the specific ways AI fails at urban fantasy — and runs every manuscript through 5 rounds of editing before you see it.
How It Works
Step 1: Answer 12 questions. The skill asks what YOU want through popup-style multiple choice — one question at a time.
- Protagonist Role — Supernatural Detective/PI, Bounty Hunter, Law Enforcement, Bar/Business Owner, Assassin, Government Agent, Healer, Freelance Magic User, Creature Passing as Human, Academy Student
- City Setting — Real city (hidden or known supernatural), fictional city, or small town
- Magic System — Hard (clear rules, defined costs), soft (mysterious), hybrid, or no personal magic
- Supernatural Politics — Faction-heavy, two-sided, anarchic, bureaucratic, or hidden war
- Case/Job Structure — Single case, case + series arc, multiple connecting cases, or no case structure
- Romance Subplot — Slow burn across series, contained in this book, none, or complicated existing
- Relationship Configuration (if romance) — M/F, M/M, F/F, Why Choose standard RH, Why Choose poly (any configuration — MMFMF, FFMM, whatever you want), ménage/throuple, or custom
- Tone — Noir/hardboiled, action-adventure, cozy/light UF, or dark/horror-adjacent
- POV & Voice — First person (dominant UF style), third person close, or dual first person
- Protagonist Gender — Female, male, non-binary, or custom
- Length — Novella (20,000 words), standard novel (60-80,000 words), or extended (90-110,000 words)
- Series Position — Standalone, Book 1, or continuing a series
- Style Guide — Upload 1-2 previous manuscripts and the skill matches YOUR voice
Step 2: The skill writes your book — with the World Integration System active in every chapter, enforcing city specificity, magic costs, mundane/magical balance, case structure, and faction political awareness.
Step 3: Full editorial pipeline — AI-ism revision, world integration audit, developmental edit, beta read, and targeted revision. Every manuscript goes through 5 rounds of editing before delivery.
The World Integration System
This is what makes the Urban Fantasy Author different from generic AI writing. Six rules that prevent the most common AI failures in urban fantasy:
- The Protagonist Already Lives Here — no discovery arcs. They know about magic, have opinions about it, and treat supernatural elements as part of their normal Tuesday. No exposition dumps, no “gasping at the impossible.”
- The City Is Specific — named streets, neighborhoods with supernatural reputations, weather that affects the plot, transit that’s part of the story. Not “a city.” THIS city.
- Magic Has Rules and Costs — every spell, ability, or power is paid for. Fatigue, pain, materials, favors. The protagonist manages their magical resources. No free solutions.
- The Mundane and Magical Coexist — rent is still due, the car makes a weird noise, they haven’t eaten since yesterday. Non-magical problems complicate supernatural ones and vice versa. Every 3-4 chapters includes a significant mundane anchor.
- Cases / Jobs Have Structure — hook, investigation, twist, escalation, confrontation, resolution. The protagonist actively investigates, not passively receives information. Dead ends teach something. The resolution uses established elements.
- The Supernatural Has Politics — factions have territory, leaders, alliances, and grudges. Information has political value. Favors come with strings. Political consequences cascade across chapters.
Voice-Forward Prose
UF lives or dies on the narrator’s voice. The skill builds a protagonist who has opinions about everything — the city, the factions, the weather, their landlord. Their humor is specific (gallows, deadpan, absurdist, dry, dark). Their narration treats the supernatural as mundane because it IS mundane to them. A vampire at the bar isn’t remarkable. A ward on the door is just like locking it.
Why Choose & Poly Support
Full relationship configuration support — not just standard reverse harem. Pick any combination: M/F, M/M, F/F, standard RH (one protagonist + multiple LIs), true polyamorous (MMFMF, FFMM, any setup you define), ménage, or custom. The skill adapts:
- Each love interest gets a distinct voice, unique dynamic with the protagonist, and their own arc
- For poly: partners have relationships WITH EACH OTHER, not just with the protagonist
- Group formation paced across the full book — individual bonds first, then pairs, then the full unit
- No LI disappears for more than 2 chapters. Rotation tracked automatically.
- Jealousy and negotiation are real — not resolved in one conversation
- The “why” in why-choose is answered: each partner fills a specific, irreplaceable role
Match Your Voice
Upload 1-2 previous manuscripts and the skill builds a style guide from your existing work — capturing your voice, humor style, how you handle magic description, action pacing, and first-person narration characteristics. Your books sound like YOU.
What You Get Per Book
- Complete manuscript as .docx (20k, 60-80k, or 90-110k words depending on your choice)
- Amazon KDP metadata document with description, keywords, categories, comp titles, and cover prompt
- Style guide (if built from uploads) — reusable across your series
Built-In Protections
- AI Name Blacklist — no Harry, Luna, Lucien, or Shadow anything. Real-sounding names matched to the protagonist’s background.
- Anti-7 Bias — prevents the AI default of using 7 for every number
- UF-Specific AI Crutch Detection — catches “I could feel the magic in the air,” “ancient eyes regarded me,” “my power flared to life,” and dozens more
- Per-Chapter World Integration Check — discovery arc, city specificity, magic cost, mundane anchor, case advancement, and faction awareness verified after every chapter
- Anti-Convenience Rule — the protagonist cannot develop new abilities on the spot when the plot needs them
The Full Editorial Pipeline
Every manuscript goes through 5 stages of editing — not just one pass:
- AI-Ism Revision — removes robotic phrasing, fixes POV breaks, catches UF-specific AI patterns (“the shadows seemed alive,” “my instincts screamed,” “something ancient and powerful”)
- World Integration Audit — verifies no discovery arc violations, counts city-specific references (target: 20+), audits every magic use for consistent costs, checks mundane presence per act, validates case structure and faction consequences
- Developmental Edit — structural assessment of pacing, case arc, character voice, faction dynamics, romance subplot, and tone consistency
- Beta Read — critical reader review calibrated for UF readers: “Did the city feel real? Did the magic stay consistent? Did the voice hold up? Was the case satisfying?”
- Targeted Revision — applies top structural improvements from dev edit and beta read
